Round 5 of the Tour de France was won by Peter Sagan, his 12th overall stage win. The mountainous stage was the ideal scenario for cyclists to attempt a breakaway, however, this wasn’t to be as tactics came into play and the stage was decided on the sprint.

Julien Alaphilippe maintained the overall leadership on a day that saw attempted breakaways which were quickly neutralized.

This stage of the tour will go down as an extremely uneventful one due to the fact that there were no major changes in any of the classifications and there were no big surprises either.

It’s still early days and the best is yet to come.
